Moreton Bay Basketball

Moreton Bay Basketball Inc (MBBI) is a not-for-profit incorporated sporting organisation. Our strategic plan describes MBBI’s mission and vision statements as:


To bring basketball to the Moreton Bay community in a positive, inclusive and respectful way to promote active and healthy people who share the love of ‘the game of basketball’.


  • To be a successful, thriving basketball association in the Moreton Bay region, promoting health, wellbeing and resilience.
  • To promote the growth and development of women in sport through our senior and junior competitions.
  • To provide the youth of Moreton Bay an on-going pathway to grow their leadership, teamwork and social skills in a welcoming environment.


Moreton Bay Basketball’s philosophy is to provide the opportunity for people of all ages to develop their skills, learn life lessons and enjoy the game of basketball.  Opportunities are available for a social player looking to enhance their skills while playing for fun or to an advanced player with a competitive desire to become a complete player both physically and mentally, through our Sun’s representative programs.

Our programs are conducted in a positive environment that fosters improved self-confidence, self-esteem and healthy lifestyles, allowing people of all ages to participate, enjoy and excel at all levels.

The Caboolture Basketball Association was formed in the 1970’s operating for a number of years from the Centenary Lakes Stadium, Caboolture. The Caboolture Basketball representative teams and players were formerly known as the Caboolture Lakers.

In the 1990’s Caboolture Basketball Association became an incorporated organisation and though it has undergone a number of Constitution changes.  It is known today as Moreton Bay Basketball Inc (MBBI). With competition changes from Basketball Queensland a new representative program was formed name the Coastal Suns catering for both teams in Junior and Senior competitions. In 2010, the representative name was changed to Moreton Bay Suns.

MBBI is affiliated with Basketball Queensland (BQ) and Basketball Australia (BA) and abides by their governing rules, as well as the governing rules of MBBI contained in it’s constitution.
